肖永涛（シャオ・ヨンタオ）

現実と超現実のあいだを探るアーティスト

1986年、中国安徽省六安生まれ。
2009年、天津美術学院総合絵画学科卒業。
同年より北京を拠点に活動。

主にリアリズムおよびシュルレアリスムの表現を軸に制作している。

創作ステートメント：
あるテーマに基づく創作を続ける中で、私はしばしば「解放」という行為が本当に人の魂を救うのかを問い続けてきた。自由に、そして軽やかに生きることは、極度に束縛された人間の心を開き、世界へと溶け込ませることができるのだろうか。

しかし、解決を求めすぎることで、かえって別の制限の中に閉じ込められてしまうこともある。

この奇妙でありながら極めて現実的な循環の中で、私は絵画において「物」と対話し、「物」を通して創造することで、自らの意識、信念、欲望、そして力を取り戻そうとしている。
思考や対話といった自身の“習慣”や、慣れ親しんだ方法を用いながら、私は自分だけの不思議な物語の世界を編み上げていく。

Xiao Yongtao

An artist exploring the space between reality and the surreal.

Born in 1986 in Lu’an, Anhui, China.
Graduated from the Department of Comprehensive Painting at Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in 2009.
Since then, he has been based in Beijing.

His practice is primarily rooted in realism and surrealism.

Artist Statement:
Working around specific themes, I have long been preoccupied with the question of whether “release” can truly liberate the human soul. Can a state of freedom—of letting go—enable someone deeply constrained to open themselves and reconnect with the world?

Yet, the more one attempts to resolve such questions, the more one risks falling into another kind of limitation.

Within this strange yet profoundly real cycle, I engage in a dialogue with objects through painting, creating through them in order to reclaim my own consciousness, belief, desire, and strength.
By extending my habitual ways of thinking and “conversing,” and relying on familiar modes of expression, I construct and narrate a peculiar world that belongs entirely to myself.
