The Genesis:Artishion in Kyoto

Every great journey begins with a sincere dialogue.
The story of Artishion unfolded at the Kyoto Horikawa Oike Gallery, a place where the city’s profound intellect meets its vibrant art scene. As a designated gallery of the Kyoto City University of Arts, this academically prestigious venue provided the perfect stage to celebrate the birth of Artishion.
In this historic setting, we realized our very first contemporary art exhibition. It was more than just a display; it was the moment our vision of “connecting worlds and transcending boundaries” first took a tangible form.
With the full support of my longtime friend, Professor Nishanta & his  organization, Office KANDY, we brought the raw power of Chinese contemporary art to the cultural heart of Japan. In particular, the dialogue sparked by Li Peng’s “Classic of Mountains and Seas” series remains an unforgettable milestone for us.
This debut marks both our starting point and our enduring promise: We believe that art can cross any border, blooming into the most modern of flowers from the deepest of cultural soils.

EXHIBITION FOOTPRINT

Special Focus: Li Peng’s "Classic of Mountains and Seas"

In the sequence of exhibitions held in Kyoto, Mr. Li Peng’s Classic of Mountains and Seas series stands out as an exceptionally profound stroke of color.
As a monumental work from China’s pre-Qin period, the Classic of Mountains and Seas carries the most primitive imagination of Eastern civilization. Through his highly recognizable and exquisite line drawings, Li Peng breathes new life into those grotesque mythical beasts and ancient landscapes. Within the pristine white space of the Kyoto Horikawa Oike Gallery, these lines—rooted in antiquity—seem to transcend millennia of time and space to engage in a silent dialogue with the ancient soul of Kyoto. This is more than a cross-border artistic exchange; it is a profound reshaping of Eastern aesthetics within a contemporary context.
