Zhang Yinghua (artist name: Haoshi) was born in 1967 in Deyang, Sichuan, China.

He studied at Sichuan Fine Arts Institute from 1986 to 1987 and has been living and working in Beijing as a full-time artist since 1993. He is currently a member of the Hong Kong Federation of Literary and Art Circles Artists Association.

Since the late 1990s, Zhang has remained actively engaged in the field of contemporary Chinese art. His works have been exhibited across mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, and the United States, and have been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions.

Moving between surreal figuration and spiritual landscapes, Zhang employs allegory, symbolism, and imagination to investigate lived reality, historical memory, and the inner world of human experience. His earlier works centered on figurative narratives, constructing theatrical and often absurd visual scenarios infused with social metaphor and cultural reflection.

Since the 2010s, his practice has increasingly expanded into landscape painting, leading to series such as Extraordinary Landscapes, Zen Realm, and Hidden Realm of Shu. In these works, natural scenery becomes a vehicle for memory, contemplation, and psychological experience, creating poetic spaces suspended between reality and imagination.

For Zhang, surrealism is not merely a visual style but a way of perceiving the world. Whether depicting figures or landscapes, his paintings seek to move beyond appearances and explore the complex relationships among individual consciousness, historical experience, and contemporary existence.
