Zhang Yanni is a Beijing-based artist born in Jiujiang, Jiangxi, China. She graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, where she later received her master’s degree. A member of the China Artists Association, her early practice focused on representational painting before shifting toward a material-driven approach centered on ceramics.

In recent years, Zhang has developed a distinctive mixed-media language by combining ceramic fragments with acrylic, linen, zippers, and wood panels. Through processes such as kiln firing and material recomposition, she constructs layered pictorial spaces that oscillate between control and unpredictability. Her major series, including Figures of Speech and Virtual Poems, explore the relationship between material presence and poetic abstraction. Her works have been exhibited at institutions such as the National Art Museum of China and collected by major public collections.
