Artist-Wang xiaojin

Wang Xiaojin

A contemporary Chinese artist whose practice has evolved from figurative narrative and material experimentation to systematic drawing, using pencil, grids, and light structures to explore perception and temporality.
Wang Xiaojin was born in Manzhouli, Inner Mongolia, in 1968, and graduated from the Department of Fine Arts at Shandong Normal University in 1991.

Since the 1990s, Wang has remained active in the field of contemporary Chinese art, working across a wide range of media including oil painting, video, newspaper collage, and works on paper. His early figurative series, such as Great Figures , attracted considerable attention. Over time, he gradually shifted toward conceptual practices and material experimentation, employing newspaper collage, textual deconstruction, and image reconstruction to explore the relationships between social memory, cultural symbols, and individual perception.

Since 2019, Wang has been developing his ongoing The Way of the Junzi series. Using pencil and grid structures as his primary visual language, he constructs spaces where order and luminosity coexist through repetition and subtle variation. His works investigate time, spirituality, and inner order through a restrained and rigorous visual approach, presenting a distinctive artistic language that combines Eastern philosophical thought with contemporary abstract and conceptual practices.

His solo exhibitions have been held at Shanghai Art Scene Gallery, Mandarin Oriental Miami, and Parkview Green Art Gallery Shanghai. He has also participated in major exhibitions including Paper Above All in Melbourne, the Shanghai International Paper Art Biennale, group exhibitions in New York, Thermocline, Beyond Concept: Post-Abstraction and Contemporary Art, and The Soft Power.

Wang Xiaojin is a contemporary Chinese artist whose practice spans painting, video, newspaper collage, and works on paper. In recent years, he has focused on The Way of the Junzi series, using pencil-drawn grids and subtle fields of light to explore themes of order, time, spirituality, and inner perception. His work combines Eastern philosophical thought with contemporary abstract and conceptual art.
