Born in 1987 in Chaoshan, Guangdong, China. Currently lives and works in Beijing.

Shen began painting at an early age and started working with oil painting in 2005. Since 2009, he has developed a sustained practice spanning painting, works on paper, and installation.

Grounded in observations of contemporary society, his work constructs metaphorical and subtly absurd narratives through figurative painting. Rather than relying on verbal articulation, Shen expresses his perceptions through imagery, establishing a direct connection between painterly sensitivity and bodily presence.

In his recent Zhengming Tower series, he repeatedly depicts an anthropomorphic mouse-like figure. With its oversized head, fragile body, and compressed surroundings, the figure oscillates between innocence and unease. It functions both as a symbolic image and as a reflection of psychological states such as vulnerability, restraint, and self-concealment within contemporary life.

In Land Without Soil: Snail, the motif of slowness and burden extends his exploration of existential conditions.

Alongside painting, Shen also engages in installation. His project Shen Garden, constructed with charcoal in the form of a traditional pavilion, reflects his interest in space, temporality, and cultural imagery.
