Wu Yanxi
A painter who constructs a contemporary visual cosmology through a unique “circular philosophy.”
Wu Yanxi, born in Kunming, Yunnan, comes from an artistic family and studied at the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts in Beijing. She is known for her self-developed “circular philosophy” painting, which integrates the materiality of Western oil painting with an Eastern cosmological perspective.
Since establishing her studio in Songzhuang, Beijing in 2010, Wu has continuously explored new pictorial languages centered on circular structures, using them as a visual system to express the concept of “boundlessness within and without.” Her works transform philosophical reflections into immersive spatial experiences.
Her solo exhibitions include Mind Image (2022, Beiyitang Art Museum, Beijing), Inner Universe (2021, Wide Space, Beijing), and A World in a Grain of Sand (2016, Common Art Center, Beijing). She has also participated in major group exhibitions such as the 4th China Oil Painting Exhibition and international exchanges across Europe and Asia.
Wu’s works are held in important public and private collections, representing a distinctive approach to contemporary Eastern abstraction.
