Artist-Weina He

Weina He

An artist who constructs symbolic visual fields through contemporary ink and mixed media, exploring the relationships between personal experience, social memory, and everyday culture.
He Weina

He Weina graduated from the Chinese Painting Department of Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in 1993. In 1994, she moved to Beijing to pursue an independent artistic practice. One year later, she relocated to Changsha and established the Mawangdui Backyard Studio. In 2007, she returned to Beijing and founded a new studio in Songzhuang.

Working across contemporary ink, mixed media, printmaking, performance, and video, He Weina has continuously explored the evolving possibilities of ink-based artistic expression. Over more than three decades of practice, her work has developed from investigations of gender, identity, and personal experience toward broader inquiries into psychological space, symbolic structures, everyday culture, and social narratives.

Her recent works combine contemporary ink language with flattened compositions, repetitive patterns, symbolic imagery, and mixed-media materials. Through the transformation of ordinary objects, domestic spaces, and cultural symbols, she constructs visual fields that oscillate between personal memory and collective experience, reality and imagination.

Her works have been exhibited internationally and are held in museum, institutional, and private collections.
